| Hymenoplasty Post-Op Care Instructions |
|
Once you have successfully had hymenoplasty, it is very important that you are cautious with how you care for the area. Because hymen tissue is delicate and unique to each woman, it is important that you are not active after your procedure. Keep in mind, you can have your original hymen tear before actual penetration with certain activities (running, stretching, tampon use), and the chances can be even higher if you have had your hymen reattached in a hymenoplasty. You want to find a doctor that knows what they are doing, has experience and explains in detail all possible risks and complications. If you are examining yourself frequently, lifting your legs, etc., you do run the risk of not letting the tissue solidify and seal. The first 2-4 weeks are the most important. Can Your Doctor Tell If You Had a Hymenoplasty? Avoid wearing thongs, using tampons, running, heavy lifting (nothing over 3-5 pounds), exercise, swimming, etc. for the first 4-6 weeks. Ask your doctor for their specific post-op instructions. Make sure to find out what the protocol is, if you have any complications or the hymenal tissue or stitches reopen during this healing period. Do they offer complimentary touch-ups to help re-attach it? Also, make sure to ask if you are a good candidate BEFORE having the procedure. This way you can insure you and your doctor discuss expectations and all possible outcomes. Do your research, find a knowledgeable and experienced doctor. Or you run a great risk of an unsuccessful hymenoplasty. If you have questions for me, do not hesitate to ask me. Or if you would prefer, you can leave your question below to help others with similar concerns. I will answer your questions that way too. :-)

Hi Nancy!
Like to make sure my readers get as quick a response as possible. I know these issues are important to you and that is important to me. There are a ton of doctors in the area (which can make it very confusing I know). But my advice would be to start with those doctors. They are experienced and have the appropriate credentials. I know you can email them first to meet them & get a feel for them. Ultimately, choose the one you are most comfortable and confident in. Let me know if you have other questions for me. Otherwise best wishes and please do not hesitate to contact me again! Warm regards, Vanessa

Hi Vanessa, its me again!
I have been doing some reasearch on the list of doctors you had previously provided me with and I have a question regarding one of the Doctors. If a Dr. does not have pre-op and post-op photos of hymenoplasty, is that a deal breaker? Also the nurse I spoke with at the Dr.'s office did not want to tell me how long the Dr. has been performing hymenoplastys for or how many he has performed. I'm not certain if I should disregard this Doctor since his qualifications and credentials seem legitimate! Any advise? thank you Vanessa!

Hi Vanessa,
Yes I have corresponded with the doctor personally via email and to quote his exact response, he stated: "I have been performing them for years." Also, of the 2 doctors I have narrowed my selection to, one Dr. uses a scalpel and the other Dr. uses the Ellman Surgitron to make the incisions into the remnants of the hymeneal ring. With your knowledge and experience in the field, would you know which instrument/tool has better results? Each Dr. I spoke with was obviously bias towards the instrument they use and getting a neutral opinion from you would greatly help me decide on a Dr. Vanessa you are a true angel sent from above! I'm greatful I can speak with you when there is really no one else around I can discuss this highly private and sensitive topic with.

Hi Helen,
Thanks for your question. The constipation may have not been great for the healing of the stitches. And the straining does not help. Though it is a good sign that you are not continuing to bleed, make sure to contact your doctor just to be on the safe side! Vanessa

Hi Mary,
"Normal" is going to vary by woman, doctor, type of sutures, etc. Was your doctor experienced? Do you know if they used dissolvable sutures? If so, usually they are still in place (on average 10-14 days). If not then your doctor would have to remove them. Hope this gives you a better idea. Keep taking it easy. Continue to minimize your activity and follow your docs post-op instructions. Happy healing! Vanessa

Well i have been active for a year now. I cant marry my partner due to social and religious constraints. Both of us have tried and it is really impossible for us.Now i know hymenoplasty is my only option.I want to know if a gynaechologist can perform this procedure or not?I found some connection on the net but problem is that they claim to be sergeons not gynachologists .they also claim pure secrecy because they say they perform this sergury not in a hospital or clinic.they also said they did this once for a girl in a hotel room. Is that possible? like really possible for a sergery like this being performed in a hotel where there are no equipments etc. at all.
