Casey's Wedge Labiaplasty

A few months ago, I was contacted by a young woman looking for help prior to having labiaplasty surgery.

Casey is 23 years old, from Colorado and doesn't have any children.

As she was getting married soon, she felt ready and want to have the surgery before her wedding.

Casey was able to find a doctor she could trust in her State, and was kind enough to share her story with us.

Here's my interview with Casey:

Vanessa:

How long had you been considering getting a  labiaplasty?

Casey:

I have considered it ever since I was a teenager.  I thought something was wrong with me.  Have always been insecure about my labia minoras pertruding past my majoras. Once when I was a teenager I was showering and my mom saw and thought I was a hermaphidite and had started growing a penis and testicles. It was horrifying. I felt like a freak. It hurt to wear pants too tight and would sometimes catch on my underwear or make me uncomfortable in work out clothes or bathing suits. I also have always been worried about my hygiene and then intimacy was always awkward and uncomfortable since I was so self conscious about my labia.

Vanessa:

What were you experiencing prior to the labia reduction?

Casey:

Minor discomfort, very self concious and hygenically difficult issues and embarrassment.

Vanessa:

What type of research had you done to help you in your decision?

Casey:

I did large amounts of research and read blogs and even watched a surgery. I researched the different techniques in depth and talked to surgeons and patients.

Vanessa:

How many doctors did you meet with?

Casey:

Three.

Vanessa:

Why did you choose your doctor?

Casey:

I trusted my doctor and he used the wedge technique which is more difficult and takes more skill but gives more natural results and has a lesser risk of complications. He is amazing and was honest with me and made me feel comfortable. He did not pressure me to have the surgery at all in fact said I needed to chose what I wanted to do for me and that I didn't need it.

Vanessa:

How would you describe your level of satisfaction with your results?  And why do you feel this way?

Casey:

I am 100% satisfied. I am a little over 3 weeks post op and there is still some swelling but it has been an easy recovery with minimal discomfort (sutures) and I am already happy with the results and feel more confident.

Vanessa:

Is there anything you would have done differently?

Casey:

No! I love it.

Vanessa:

What do you think women should know about the procedure, recovery, etc. BEFORE having the surgery?

Casey:

There is some bleeding and almost a startling amount the first night so prepare for that. Keep a squirt bottle with you and make sure you spray and dab the area after using the bathroom EVERY time to avoid an infection. If you itch after a while you may have a yeast infection so watch out for that. APPLY YOUR OINTMENT! It works miracles. Take pictures of your progress and write down questions or concerns you have to ask your doctor so you don't forget at post ops.

Vanessa:

Anything you wish you would have known that could have better prepared you for labiaplasty?

Casey:

More about the sutures and how long it would take to dissolve. You may need to help remove them and if they are still in after 2 weeks, I would loosen them up in the bath so you don't heal around them and get infected.

Vanessa:

What advice would you give women to help them achieve a safe and successful surgery?

Casey:

Make sure you choose a skilled surgeon! Look at their portfolio and call some of their patients if you can. Ask how many they have done and how recently. This is not a surgery you want to be dissatisfied about.

Excellent advice!  Thank you for sharing your experience, your tips and outcome with us Casey.  Your wisdom and knowledge is helpful to us all.

Remember ladies, take your time, do your research and be selective with the doctor you choose.  Your body and you deserve the best!  ;-)
