Recently, one of my readers asked a really good question in her search for finding a quality vaginal surgery doctor, "Is there a difference between going to a plastic surgeon or cosmetic gynecologist for vaginal rejuvenation?"

The answer:  Absolutely!

Now even though there are some amazing plastic surgeons out there delivering fabulous results, when it comes to vaginal rejuvenation or vaginal tightening, most plastic surgeons do not offer this.

The reason is that a cosmetic gynecologist specializes in vaginal surgery and vaginal tightening as part of their formal education (for medical and functional reasons not only aesthetic reasons).

So if a woman is experiencing valid medical issues, pelvic relaxation or vaginal laxity, most plastic surgeons have not received the proper training regarding the internal components of the woman's body.

The plastic surgeon has received extensive training in respect to the human anatomy, but not necessarily in the internal physiology of the vagina (e.g. they may only tighten the entrance and not the vaginal canal).

With that said, a plastic surgeon may have proper training when it comes to a labia reduction, since it often is more cosmetic.   Just make sure that your plastic surgeon has successfully performed a large number of labiaplasty procedures.

But for vaginal rejuvenation, I am going to see a cosmetic gynecologist and a highly experienced one at that!

A cosmetic gynecologist may even give you a better chance of having the surgery covered by insurance.

There are great doctors out there.  But it is our responsibility to find them.

Regardless of what you choose, my advice and position is simple.  Educate yourself of your options, study your doctor, ask lots of questions and find what is best for you.
