Will Insurance Cover the Cost of Vaginal Rejuvenation?

In some cases, when a medical condition exists, vaginal rejuvenation may be covered, reimbursable or recognized by insurance.

You see, vaginal rejuvenation has been helping women correct anatomical or medical conditions like uterine, bladder and rectal prolapse or incontinence for more than 50 years.

The tightening of the vaginal canal and removing the scarred tissue can help to re-support some organs due to the loss of elasticity and/or child bearing.

These days though, women are electing to have the procedures done for other elective reasons.

There are women that want to tighten the vagina for better sex, cosmetic/aesthetic reasons or simply to feel better about themselves.

If vaginal rejuvenation is done purely for cosmetic reasons, it will not be covered by insurance.

On the other hand, when your gynecologist or doctor is able to diagnose a valid medical issue, your insurance may cover the cost of the procedure.

If they do, it will be covered to correct your medical condition, not to tighten your vagina.  Any tightening as a result of the surgery is an added benefit.

Each case is different.  But here a couple of other things to keep in mind.

First, most insurance companies will not pay for the surgery upfront.  A lot depends on what type of doctor you choose too.  Gynecologist, cosmetic surgeon or plastic surgeon.

So this means you will have to pay for the surgery yourself, and then submit a claim to the insurance company to reimburse you.

You may or may not get approved, and they may reimburse you for all or part of the procedure.

There are no guarantees, and you may not be reimbursed at all.

Second, what type of tool the doctor uses matters.

In my experience, if the procedure is done with a laser, your chances of reimbursement are less than if it is done with a scalpel. Insurance companies just view the laser as more cosmetic.

However, I have seen some that do get approved with the laser.

If you are wanting to have insurance pay for a some or all of the cost of vaginal rejuvenation, I suggest you ask your doctor what percentage of their patients are reimbursed by insurance.

They should know and be able to give you an idea of your chances.

Obviously the more severe your medical condition the more likely insurance is to cover it.  To see if you are a candidate for vaginal tightening click here.
